FAQS (from Facebook User Group FAQs)

When will VST/AU support be added?

VST/AU support will be added with the “VCV Bridge” module in Rack v1.0, scheduled for release in late November or early December. Rack itself won’t be a VST/AU plugin because of the major limitations of these formats, but instead you’ll be able to connect Rack to your main DAW by adding the lightweight VST/AU bridge plugin to as many DAW channels/tracks as you like, which will each connect an equal number of Bridge modules in Rack. This cross-application method allows you to break the mindset of mixing linearly in your DAW and instead use nonlinear methods like cross-modulation between tracks, enveloping audio to control filters and sidechain compressors, etc. This “bridge” is fault tolerant and doesn’t matter which order you open the DAWs.

After upgrading to Rack v0.4.0, the official plugins (Audible Instruments, Befaco, E-Series) aren’t loading.

You are most likely combining Rack v0.4.0 and plugins from v0.3.2, which are incompatible. Delete the old Rack folder, launch the new Rack, log in, and click “Refresh plugins.”

How do I install third-party plugins on Mac?

When Rack is launched for the first time, a “Rack” folder is created in your “Documents” directory. Unzip and copy plugins to “~/Documents/Rack/plugins/”. Note that only v0.4.0-compatible plugins will work with Rack v0.4.0.

How do I install third-party plugins on Windows/Linux?

Unzip and copy plugins to “plugins/” within Rack’s folder. Note that only v0.4.0-compatible plugins will work with Rack v0.4.0.

Where can I find a list of all plugins?

How do I develop my own plugin for VCV Rack?
